Sod Solutions, Inc. is the developer of this hardy turf grass. Empire Zoysia sod has excellent drought tolerance. It has lower chemical needs, which means less fertilizing and money spent on maintenance companies. With a soft feel, it has a fine tight-bladed growth and a lush blue green color. Empire greens up in the spring in late April to the beginning of May, and it will hold it’s color in the fall until the first frost hits, then it will start to go into dormancy.
Empire Zoysia can be grown on sand, sandy loam, clay, and even muck. It is very hardy. It has a rapid horizontal growth. It repairs itself from wear and tear from high traffic, and pets. Empire Zoysia has excellent resistance to diseases and insects.
Empire grass is recommended for home owners, and it is even used on commercial lawns, golf courses, and sports fields. We recommend a standard rotary mower to be used when cutting Empire Zoysia. This turf grass should be cut at 1″-2″. Empire Zoysia has a tight root system that leaves very little room for weeds to grow through. It has earned an excellent rating for weed control.
